What Do They Want?#
What kinds of thought patterns does your tech use encourage? What kinds of thought patterns would those who make your technology prefer you to possess? Have you considered the possibility that the tech you use is designed to encourage you to believe the following:
- Strangers who work for billion dollar corporations are inherently trustworthy.
- Telling lies is okay if the lies are hidden inside software.
- Blindly inviting strangers into your life is not unwise.
- Privacy violations are inevitable so you’re better off not complaining and just ignoring it. You have more important stuff to do.
- Having your personal information exploited is fine as long as you never really notice.
When stated so plainly, you may find yourself instinctively rejecting the above statements. However, these views are passively affirmed simply by integrating many of the most popular consumer technologies into your life. And as time passes, you acclimatise to the abuse. You lose perspective.
Never forget,
Many consumer technologies actively condition you into valuing convenience and hyper-connectivity at the expense of your own dignity and wellbeing.
You are free to reject this way of thinking at any time. Start now.
What Do You Want?#
If you want to SUBDUE YOUR TECH, you must establish patterns of thought towards this goal. Two fundamental principles must be remembered moving forward:
- Technology must be your servant.
- Your life is not a game for tech companies to play with.
These two principles are key to developing the SUBDUE YOUR TECH mindset, one that instinctively rejects abuse, maintains a high view of each individual’s value and strives towards keeping technology in a subservient position. Feel free to reword these principles and take full ownership of them. Re-establish a view of technology that is yours and no one else’s.
Reclaim your perspective.
